Airedale, Spinone Italiano, Dogue de Bordeaux

These will be introduced in January 2010.

I am adding new embroidery breed designs to my list of breeds bringing my list to a total of 76. I’ve always been a curious person and the thought occurred to me that it would be interesting for me to know a little bit about each breed. Then I thought if I’m curious about the breeds, then maybe anybody seeing the embroidery design would be interested about them too. I decided to add a short summary of where the dog comes from, what it does, care and maintaining, basically anything I can find out about each breed being introduced.

Airedale

AIREDALE TERRIER
The King of the Terriers

The Airedale Terrier is the largest of the terriers. Airedale Terriers are thought to be from Aire, England. These wonderful dogs are sweet and gentle but will stand up for them selves if cornered. They are quick learners as long as you can keep them interested. They love and thrive on daily exercise, making this dog a good breed for those that like to jog or walk everyday. Airedale Terriers were used as guard dogs during wartime in Great Britain and Germany. They were also used as rodent control and hunting small animals and birds. These dogs have done it all. Their fur is thick and wiry with a soft undercoat. They are easy to maintain but needs a regular brushing. Airedales were recognized by the AKC in 1888.

Spinone Italiano

SPINONE ITALIANO
The Wash and Wear Dog

Spinone Italiano is also called an Italian Pointer. These dogs are family oriented dogs. Their coats are wiry and thick. These dogs can take the cold water with ease. They should be brushed on occasion but not daily. Their fur is better left in the natural state. Their temperaments are robust, docile, active, energetic and sociable. There coats come in a variation of colors such as all white, white and orange and white with brown. This dog needs to be trained and socialized early. AKC recognized this sporting breed in 2000.

Dogue de Bordeaux

DOGUE DE BORDEAUX
The Drooling Dog

If the Dogue De Bordeaux looks familiar it is the dog that was used in the Tom Hanks film Turner and Hooch. Dogue De Bordeaux is a French Mastiff style dog. This breed was used as guardians, hunters and fighters. They are known to be excellent companions and attached to their families. They are calm, patient and affectionate. Their coat is easily maintained. Dogue De Bordeaux has a powerful, muscular, stocky body with a massive head. Dog weighs approximately 99 pounds. It seems their only draw back is the drooling. AKC recognized this working class breed in 2008.

Welcome to my new blog

For my first blog I thought I would write about what made me start my store on Etsy.com.

In 2006 I came across a chow chow embroidery design and loved it so much I embroidered a baseball cap. I started to embroidery everything with the design. It wasn't long after that my roommate started to complain about the paw prints all over the floor. I bought a towel to hang by the door to wipe my chows’ paws when we come in from rainy weather. Of course I embroidered a chow chow on it.

When 2008 rolled around I started wondering what else I could do with the embroidery designs. I began to collect more dog designs until I could figure it out what to do with them. I came across a site called Etsy in March 09 and opened a shop. I posted 4 dog breed paw towels up and didn't sell anything for 3 months.  Finally, I sold two sets of towels to two separate people on the same day. In October I decided to try to get the shop going, so I could make some money from home. I set some goals and I started posting the different breeds of my paw towels. I also decided to buy the terry cloth and make the towels myself, instead of buying them from the store.

Then I added a new product I call my dog walking bag. The bag is also referred to as the leash bag, mess bag or small travel bag. They measure 7x5x5 and are made of medium heavy cotton. These are hand made bags. They hold quite a bit for there size.

Yesterday, I finally completed my first big goal I set for myself in October. I finally have all 71 dog breed embroidery designs listed in my shop before Thanksgiving. Now we will see what happens over the Holiday. I hope to sell at least 4 items for my first Christmas at Etsy. They say your first year of Christmas sells are usually a bust but a good learning experience. For me, besides working on the orders I get, I will also work on setting next years goals for the store.

My Black Friday through Cyber Monday sell is FREE SHIPPING on everything in my shop. Please stop by and see my hand made items. http://www.mischyfpaws.etsy.com/

Happy Thanksgiving!!!
